Celebrate Star Wars Day with Hasbro - May the 4th Be With You (Singapore)

STAR WARS DAY
Date: 4th May 2013
Time: 2 - 6pm
Venue: Along Orchard Road

STAR WARS fans mark your calendars! Come 4th May 2013,  kick off a season of celebration in tribute to the popular sci-fi cult-classic films, STAR WARS, starting with the special appearance of some of the most beloved STAR WARS characters who will take to the streets. Organised by Hasbro, the event calls on all brave Padawans and other STAR WARS enthusiasts to join in the celebrations, embracing in all things STAR WARS on this special day.

Fans can stand to walk away with a special Star Wars Kenner Vintage Series Boba Fett (RRP $19.90) to be given out on that day.

May 4th holds an endearing place in the hearts of STAR WARS fans because of the popularity of a common pun spoken on this day, “May the Fourth be with you”. Based on the popular phrase from the films, ‘May the Force be with you”, the origins of this unique day dates back to 1979 where the late Margaret Thatcher was elected as Britain’s first Prime Minister on May 4, 1979. Back then, her party, in celebration of her feat, placed an advertisement in The London Evening News that said “May the Fourth be with You, Maggie. Congratulations.” Since then, the day has been set aside by STAR WARS fans worldwide as a day of celebration where they can proclaim their love for all things STAR WARS.

For fans that want to unleash their inner most Jedi, dress up like Darth Vader or even speak like Yoda, this day would be the perfect day to celebrate the saga. STAR WARS fans are also encouraged to indulge in a little of their own STAR WARS activities. Whether it means designing your own light sabers to defeat evil forces, training to become a real Jedi, creating your own Yoda and R2D2 and playing pin the light saber on Yoda, well, the galaxy’s the limit.
We hope you will join us along on Orchard Road’s shopping belt for a day of celebration. See you then and "May the Fourth -- er, the Force -- Be With You!"

HOW STAR WARS DAY CAME ABOUT:
May 4 is considered a holiday by Star Wars fans to celebrate Star Wars culture and honor the films. It is called Star Wars Day because of the popularity of a common pun spoken on this day. Since the phrase "May the Force be with you" is a famous quote often spoken in the Star Warsfilms, fans commonly say "May the fourth be with you" on this day.

In a 2005 interview on German news TV channel N24, Star Wars creator George Lucas was asked to say the famous sentence "May the Force be with you." The interpreter simultaneously interpreted the sentence into German as Am 4. Mai sind wir bei Ihnen ("We shall be with you on May 4"). This was captured by TV Total and aired on May 18, 2005.

In 2011, the first organized celebration of Star Wars Day took place in Toronto, Ontario, Canada at the Toronto Underground Cinema. Produced by Sean Ward & Alice Quinn, festivities included an Original Trilogy Trivia Game Show; a costume contest with celebrity judges; and the web's best tribute films, mash-ups, parodies, and remixes on the big screen. The second annual edition took place on Friday, May 4, 2012.

Action City’s Iron Man 3 Hot Toys Collectible Figurines Exhibit is now on at Bugis Junction Level 1 Hylam Street. This event will run from 29 April - 5 May 2013.

It's become something of a Stark Expo at Bugis Junction. There are now several Iron Man themed events being held there. It's great for fans as we can check out all the cool stuff at one location.

Here's the setup. Click on the images to enlarge or scroll to the bottom of the page for the link to the gallery.

The 1:1 lifesize Iron Man statue which was previously at Action City's store has been brought down for the event.

There's lots of stuff to see so let's get to it.

Ever wondered how many parts go into a Hot Toys Iron Man figure? Well there's over 300!

How I would love to have this Hall of Armor display.

Have you gotten all of the Hot Toys Iron Man figures? Do a quick check.

Several prototypes are on display. They are:

Whiplash

Iron Man 3 Mark XXXV Red Snapper

Iron Man 3 War Machine Mark II

Iron Man 3 Mark XLII

The Iron Man 1/4 scale busts are also on display.

Transformers Prime Beast Hunters Skystalker

Do you feel a chill? Here's a look at the Transformers Prime Beast Hunters Skystalker.

For those following, here's Chapter 12 of the Tales of the Beast Hunters. Click to enlarge.

The beast mode is cool. It looks like a frost dragon. The narrow eyes and bony claws make him look menacing. There's nice sculpted detail on his wings. I love the colours aside from the yellow bits. There's some white lightly painted on his wings further empahasing his cold based abilities.

He can fire discs from his wings. They can be aimed towards almost every direction. I would have preferred if the disc launchers could be swiveled fully. As it is we have to adjust the wings as well to position them.

Here he is without the discs. He looks better without them.

Skystalker is very poseable in beast mode and he can stand well.

Say "Ahhh"

A shot with the other deluxe class beasts.

Skystalker's transformation is easy. He just basically stands up from his beast mode. The robot head is hidden within the beast's mouth which is cool. The other nice bit of transformation is the hands swivel out and the claws peg to his forearms. The crotch pieces don't stay together well.

The robot mode is okay. I don't like the bird legs. The underside of his forearms are exposed and hollow. The tail could have had one more hinge so that it folds up to his back. The wings don't have to be vertical.

The wings weigh him down so he needs to lean forward to stand properly. This may have been planned for as there's a piece which can be extended from his heels and there's also the tail to prop him up when he does fall.

If you find the normal bot mode not to your liking, you can try the "duck" mode. I just realised, he's spotting Donald Duck's colours.

I quite like the look of his head. It reminds me of a bandit wearing a mask. It's a nice mean look for a Predacon, more so with the teeth baring above.

The disc launchers are able to swivel forward in bot mode as well.

The removeable peice from his tail tip may be attached to the back of his hand and used as a fist weapon.

Articulation. His head can move up and down, the dragon neck can be turned 45 degrees each side, hes' got ball joint shoulders, swivel hinge elbows, waist rotation, ball hips, single hinge knees, single hinge calves which bends forwards and ankle hinge. Due to his claw feet, there's not many ways we can pose him.

Group shot and comparison.
