Anime Festival Asia 2012 (AFA12) Part 3

Here's the final part, touching on the cosplayers and a couple of the stage events.

There were many cosplayers at the event as you would expect. The best places to catch them were at the open area behind the food street and in the carpark outside the halls. Here are just a couple of them. Kicking things off are Akatsuki Tsukasa and Judy from Taiwan who you could catch at the Panasonic booth. Click on the images to enlarge.

I have more images in the gallery.

Now on to the stage events. The one event which I wanted to attend was the SPHERE Special Stage segment. SPHERE is a J-pop group comprising of four members. They are Haruka Tomatsu, Minako Kotobuki, Ayahi Takagaki and Aki Toyasaki. All of them are also voice actresses. My main purpose at this event was to catch Aki Toyasaki and Minako Kotobuki who  voiced Yui and Mugi respectively from the K-On! anime. Some of you may know that K-On! was the one that piqued my interest in anime.

No photography or video recording was allowed for this segment unforutnately. Here's a brief summary of what went on. The group arrived in Singapore on Saturday. They spoke of their visit to the Merlion and Marina Bay Sands hotel. They also visited Lau Pa Sat (a food center) where they sampled local food like wanton mee, chicken rice and also durian. They didn't like the smell but tried it anyway. It was described as impactful. A Q&A session followed. Questions include which character that they have voiced do they releate to the most  and which character do they have the most confidence in playing. They then did a "live" dubbing of two scenes from the anime Natsuiro Kiseki.

I thoroughly enjoyed the segment. A pity about the no photography bit.

I stayed on for the Danny Choo segement.

Here's a few points. Culture Japan season 3 has been delayed. Japan Mode, a new television show focusing on lifestyle topics will premiere on Star World in December. Mirai Millenium is being worked on. There are two new as yet unnamed characters.

Moekana, a set of cards to help people learn basic Japanese is supposed to be meant for foreigners but its proving popular among Japanese kids. A new set called Moekanji is being developed. The Mirai Suenaga Nendoroid will soon be released. Mirai dolls are also being developed. He's on the lookout for talent and he touched on the qualities he's looking for.

You can still catch Danny Choo on 17th November 2012 at the Jurong Regional Library 4pm-6pm where he'll be sharing his experience on learning Japanese.

Following that was the Regional Cosplay Championship. I don't have many photos of it I'm afraid. The team from Singapore won it, Indonesia second and Thailand third.

We were also treated to performances by Team Shikon from Japan and Lunar Asterisk from Indonesia.

Danny Choo and Kaname performed an impromptu Gangnam Style bit.

The segment ended with all the participants and judges posing on stage.

All the cosplay and stage images can be viewed here.

I enjoyed my visit to AFA12. There were lots of things to see and buy. The booths were colourful and well decorated. I love those giant posters. And the displays were well done too. Some of the best deals could be found at the Bandai booth. Prices were slashed late on Sunday, especially on roleplay swords and roleplay accessories.

I look forward to the event next year.

Thanks for viewing!

Anime Festival Asia 2012 (AFA12) Part 2

In part 2 I'll be touching on the remaining booths in the Festival Hall.

Here's the Festival Hall floor plan again. (Image taken from the AFA site).

Bushiroad occupied two sections. On one side was where the finals of the Cardfight!! Vanguard World Championship was held.

On the other you could view various cards and illustrations on display, and purchase new packs from the counter there.

There was also a stage area where you could get the autographs of illustrators Hiroyuki Maeda and Hagiya Kaorun. And also of voice actress Aimi Terakawa who plays Suiko on the Cardfight!! Vanguard anime.

Next up is the Sword Art Online booth. The queue to enter was extremely long. It stretched back all the way to the Tamshii Nations side. All of the merchandise was sold out on the first day. I'll have to catch the anime/manga to see what its all about.

I had no problems entering on the second day. I saw this group greeting people.

These are replicas of the swords. Displayed exclusively for AFA12.

A few samples of the merchandise were left. They were not for sale unfortunately.

Moving on. The following image is from the FujiwaraYukino.com booth. I Googled this. Fujiwara Yukino is the name of a doll adventurer and reporter who travels around the world. She brought many friends along with her for AFA12.

If you needed a costume you could check out the Cosroom X Costar booth.

There were more booths selling toys and anime merchandise. Here are images of some of them.

KKnM

Proware

Rapid Culture

Dollz Inc

Here's something out of place. Tucked away in a corner was an unnamed booth selling Halo and Mega Bloks items. They had the World of Warcraft Mega Bloks sets which were tempting.

Lastly, here's some images from the Creators Hub. You could pick up items such as posters, stickers badges and comics.

That's it for part 2.

All the images from this segment can be viewed here.

Anime Festival Asia 2012 (AFA12) Part 1

I went for both days of  AFA12. There were lots of interesting things to see. As always I took tons of photos which I'll sort through as quickly as I can. I thought I'll share some of it with you first.

The venue for AFA12 was at the Singapore Expo. The following is the ticketing queue at around 8.30am. It stretched back to the entrance of Hall 8. Its a good thing it didn't rain otherwise things would have been really incovenient.

The following is the floor plan of the Festival area. In Part 1 I'll just be touching on some of the booths in the red square. (Floor plan image taken from the AFA site)

Once you've squeezed through the entrance, you'll first see the Good Smile Company booth where you can see and purchase items like figma and Nendoroids.

Nico Nico, a Japanese video sharing site, shared the booth with Good Smile Company. They were streaming performances and interviewing cosplayers.

Next up is the Tamashii Nations booth.

In case you're wondering what that is.

Here's a sample of what you could see there.

If that worked up your collector appetite you could purchase some of the items over at the Bandai booth.

Speaking of Bandai, you could check out more of their products at the Gundam area.

More Japanese toys and merchandise were available from the Muse, Toy Coin, La Tendo and Madoka Magica booths.

You could get up close with some of the invited talent and purchase related merchandise. At the Horipro booth, you could catch Sea*A, Daisuke Kishio and May'n.

Sea*A at Horipro booth

At the Amuse booth, you could catch Artistes such as FLOW and Baby Metal.

There was also the Rurouni Kenshin zone there where you could see the actual props used in the live action movie.

At the Danny Choo booth, you could see lots of Mirai Suenaga items ranging from t-shirts, badges, posters and dolls. She's the mascot for Culture Japan.

You could have your picture taken with some of the the characters of the K anime series over at the Animax booth.

Sing your favourite anime songs at the Karaoke booth.

Exclusive AFA merchandise like CDs, T-shirts and lanyards were available at the AFA shop.

Right, thats about it for Part 1.
