Captain America movie 4" Hydra Soldier (Dark Threat)

Hail Hydra ! A look at the deluxe pack Hydra Soldier.

The Hydra soldier looks well protected in that thick suit. Its got some nice details with the lines, creases and pockets. He reminds me of something out of Star Wars. The helmet resembles that of a medical droid, and the suit looks like Darth Vader's costume. Here's a thought, do a head swap with Darth Vader, then he'll be a genuine "dark threat".

The armor and weapons are removable, and also the belt, which I didn't expect. Almost missed it at first, the catch for the belt is concealed as one of the pouches. Been thinking of making a MU style Batman and the belt will certainly be useful.

All suited up. Now he has slightly better odds against Captain America.

The Hydra Soldier comes with 4 projectiles. Two orange and two blue which are overly long. I like to think the blue missiles as ice blasts, then he'll be carrying a flamethrower and a freeze gun.

Decent articulation. Rotation at the neck, ball shoulders, elbows bend and swivel, ball hips, upper thigh swivel, knees bend and swivel. With the chest armour on, he cannot lift his arms.

Not a bad figure. I might get one more at the most. I'm more interested in the upcoming standard carded Hydra Trooper. Its cheaper too.

Licence 2 Play 2011

LICENCE 2 PLAY
SUNTEC SINGAPORE HALL 401
27 - 29 May 2011, 11am - 9pm
Free Admission

This event is for gaming fans. There will be game launches, showcase and updates, gaming competitions and various activities. Follow the above link for more details.

While I have a casual interest in games, the toy carnival within the event was what I wanted to check out. Pics to follow, but first, some of the gaming side.

It wasn't that crowded when I went during lunch, probably due to it being a work/school day. I expect it to be packed over the weekend.

Pics of the above can be viewed here.

Now the toy carnival. Lots of Transformers, Marvel, DC and Japanese figures. The light traffic volume meant I could browse comfortably.

A few more pics can be viewed here.

Left empty handed. There were some good deals, nothing that I really, really wanted though. Thought I should save for future releases which I want more.

DAY 2
A friend was going so I tagged along. Nothing new of note on the toys side. Just took a few pics of some cosplayers.

Green Lantern Movie 4" Kilowog

I don't really like the look of the Green Lantern movie figures. If I buy any, it'll probably be for the construct or accessory. Which is the reason why I picked up Kilowog. More on that a little further down.

The packaging is nice. Its shaped like a lantern and is bright and attractive.

Thinking of using the card as a prop or backdrop. It has the Green Lantern logo and their oath is printed around it.

I think the figure is a good representation of how Kilowog will appear in the movie. I like his head, think it was well sculpted. Good paint too. Aside from that, I don't like the rest of him. I'm probably just too used to his comic and cartoon appearance. He's got no neck and looks hunchback. His body reminds me of Swamp Thing. The muscles look a mess to me, and it looks like folded skin on his legs.

The figure has only basic articulation. The best pose for him I think would be a Zangief style clothesline.

The figure I got has very loose legs and I had problems getting him to stand. The DCIH stands come in handy.

A shot of Kilowog and other similar scale figures. He's of a decent size.

Now on to his accessory. On its own it doesn't look like much, we can maybe use it as a chunk of kryptonite. The good thing about it is you can attach various constructs from other figures to it, hence its called an energy blast "adaptor".

I would love to demonstrate this properly, but I'm not paying near US$20 a figure just for the constructs. Yeah, that's how much these are going for at local retail. I'm going to wait for some discounts before considering any more purchases. Anyway, here's an enlarged pic of the back of the card to illustrate its usefullness.

And I found this out on the net, the adaptor can also be used with figures of other scales. Its quite loose on JLU figures but it fits well on DCUC.

A roleplay power ring is included with the figure. Its too small for adults but it should be great for kids. Nice detail.

The 4" movie figures are pretty crappy. I think most collectors wouldn't give them a second look if not for the constructs. Kilowog can hang around for now.

Green Lantern Classics B'dg, Despotellis, Dex Starr

Woohoo a DC Classics three-pack !... Hey..... I only see two figures... oh... that yellow thing counts as one ?... Okaaayy...

Lots of space in the package, can't help but feel a bit ripped-off. Lucky thing this pack contains the torso piece of Stel or I'll really be mad.

B'dg is my favourite of the two furry creatures. Nice head sculpt and fur. Proportions look right. Good paint. He can stand well too.

Dex Starr looks a bit of a gentleman, well groomed, hair combed back and a straight posture. Nice teeth too. Decent overall, maybe a darker shade of blue would be better. He cannot stand on his own and needs his tail for support.

Quiz time. From the above pics, was Despotellis rotated ?

I like Dex Starr's paws. Cute. Some claws would have been nice.

Dex Starr comes with a blast of red plasma or "vomit". Looks like he can spew it very well.

Here's an idea of how Mattel could have released these.

Run along now.

Thor movie 4" Fire Blast Destroyer

My second Destroyer in the space of a month. This time its the 4" version.

Destroyer is number 11 in the line.

A nice figure. Good sculpt, similar to the 8" version. Shoulders have only cut joints. The "monkey" arms look a bit too long. The switch for the light up feature is on his abdomen, think they could have used the head for that instead, like a couple other figures Hasbro has done before. He would look better. The head is made of translucent material and looks out of place with the rest of his body. The neck peg is transparent. Think they intended for the light to shine through the head as well but its not strong enough for that.

"Together, we can rule the nine worlds as father and son."
You can see more of the 8" Destroyer here.

Destroyer stands a head taller than Thor.

Try picking on somebody your own size.

A shot with some Marvel Universe figures.

Destroyer is going to err... destroy all who stands in his path.

Good figure, but could have done without the light up feature.
