Captain America: The International Patriots

This is a Kmart exclusive. In this pack we get a new version of Captain Britain, a Captain America repaint and a new character in Red Guardian.

I'll start with Red Guardian. All I know about him is that he fights for Russia. So, after a quick Google, I found out that the figure is based on recent appearances in the comics (Darkstar and the Winter Guard). He carries a shield that has a double eagle design which is said to resemble the Russian Coat of Arms. Its supposed to be made of Vibranium. The figure's accessory of course is made of plastic and mine is bent and warped due to how it was packaged, The rubber band holding it in place was also very tight. Like Captain America's shield, theres a clip and a peg for Red Guardian to carry it on his wrists or on his back.
The figure looks a bit like Ultraman. With the fin on the top of his head and the circles at the sides. Even the colours are quite similar. On a more serious note, the head sculpt is unique. Can't think of too many Marvel characters that look like that. The belt is a bit different, besides the various pouches, there's also a water canteen attached on the back. Poor paint application aside, the figure looks pretty good. He's a bit short but proportionate.

Articulation. He's got a ball joint neck, ball and hinge shoulders, swivel and hinge elbows, torso pivot, ball and hinge hips, thigh swivel, double jointed knees and swivel and hinge ankles.

This Captain America is the same figure as the Heavy Artillery Cap. One difference is the paint. The scales on his costume on the upper torso has some specks of white on it rather than a uniform blue colour throughout.

Articulation. He's got a ball joint neck, ball and hinge shoulders, swivel and hinge elbows, torso pivot, ball and hinge hips, thigh swivel, double jointed knees and swivel and hinge ankles.

I still prefer the Midnight Air Raid Cap. This figure will be donating his shield accessory to him.

I wasn't aware that Captain Britain wore this costume. So after Googling again, found out that this figure is based on his appearance in the Captain Britain and MI13 comic. I'm not used to this version, his costume to me resembles that of a Winter Olympics participant. The boots the exception. The figure looks too chunky and stumpy for my liking. He suffers from poor paint application and mines bleeding from his left hand.

He comes with  the sword Excalibur. It has nice detail on the hilt. The plastic used for it is pretty hard, its not going to warp easily. This sword is the same as the one that comes with the standard card Captain Britain. This sword has a grey hilt while that one is gold.

While I don't like his look, he's got great articulation. He's got a ball joint neck, ball and hinge shoulders, swivel and hinge elbows, wrist swivel, torso pivot, ball and hinge hips, thigh swivel, double jointed knees and ankle pivot and hinge.

Was there a zombie Captain Britain ? This figure could be used to make that version.

My favourite Captain Britain is the Marvel Universe version.

Captain Britain is the tallest of the three while Red Guradian (not taking the fin into account) is the shortest.

I wasn't going to get this three-pack at first but I'm glad I did. Red Guardian will join the collection. I prefer this Captain America over the Heavy Artillery one, plus I get a shield for my Midnight Air Raid Cap.  Captain Britain will need some getting use to. And I prefer the grey hilt Excalibur over the gold hilt one.

Captain America 3.75" Marvel's Hydra Soldier

Time for some henchmen love. Marvel's Hydra Armored Soldier.

This is a nice figure. Like the look, design and colours. Little difficulty in identifying who he works for as there's a Hydra logo on his left arm and also on tthe sides of his helmet. Some small gripes. There are lines running on the midriff and lower back that disappear into the upper torso. It probably is some armour he's wearing underneath. It looks okay from the front but out of place on his back. The skirt is glued on. Mine wasn't stuck on properly, hope you have better luck with yours.

For articulation, he's got a ball joint neck, ball and hinge soldiers, swivel and hinge elbows, wrist swivel, torso pivot, ball and hinge hip, thigh swivel, double jointed knees and swivel and hinge ankles. That's better than some of the Captain America figures in this line. The skirt is pretty stiff and restricts leg movement. Good thing for cuts in the sides and the front right of the skirt to allow for some better posing.

The harness he's wearing is removeable. Attached on the right side is some power connector for his weapons. It doesn't actually connect to a weapon but I assume thats its purpose. It gets bent easily. Other accessories include two blasters and a projectile. The non-firing gun is made of rather soft plastic.

Fully equipped. The harness will tend to be pulled towards his right.

The power connector is pretty cool looking. The arm loops are a bit small so you'll need to watch that you don't scrap paint off his arm. It doesn't really restrict arm movement but it will get bent out of shape and possibly break at the loops if you move it too much.

Missile away.

He's around the same height as the Midnight Air Raid Captain America and slightly shorter than the Marvel Universe Secret Wars Captain America.

Soldiers of fear. You can view the post on the deluxe pack Hydra Soldier here.

This is a great figure. I don't usually troop build but I'm very tempted to do so with this.

Captain America Midnight Air Raid Deluxe Mission Pack

It's the 4th of July. I wish those of you from the US a Happy Independence Day! In light of the day, I picked a Captain America to post about.

"Henchmen beware: Captain America is on patrol!"
That line is on the back of the card. Poor henchmen... think the only place I have seen anyone truly spare a thought for them is in the first Austin Powers movie.

This Captain America figure is from the Midnight Air Raid deluxe mission pack. I bought this figure as it reminded me a lot of the Marvel Legends series 1 Captain America. Like the look and the colours. The shade of blue especially. Paint application in this line is pretty bad, had a tough time choosing this figure and I'm still not happy with it.

Articulation. He's got a ball joint neck, ball and hinge shoulders, single hinged elbows and knees, wrists swivel, ball and hinge hips and thigh swivel.

There's a hole in his back to attach the glider to. And also to attach his shield if you got a compatible one.

Accessories include the jet glider, two shield discs and two guns. The shield discs have no attachments for him to hold, so he'll need to borrow a shield from another figure.

They are ideal for some frisbee fun.

He can carry the guns, though a bit awkwardly.

I quite like the jet glider. Like the design. It fits nicely on him and it's not too heavy, he can still stand straight without falling backwards. The missiles cannot be detached.

The guns attach to the wings, and the shield disc in the back. The shield shoots pretty far.

A shot with ML1 Captain America.

He's slightly shorter than the Marvel Universe versions. He's a bit bulkier, especially in the midriff and thighs which I prefer.

Think I will use him as my default Cap for display.

I like this figure. He lacks articulation but he displays well. The glider is fun to play with too. If you're looking for a similar figure with more articulation and a proper shield, there's the Heavy Artillery Captain America. But that figure spots a dark blue costume instead.

Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides series 2 4" Jack Sparrow

"This is without a doubt the worst pirate I have ever seen."

Not quite. This figure is actually pretty decent.

This Jack Sparrow figure is from series 2. Identifiable by the long coat he's wearing. I prefer this version for the more complete attire. The head is a bit too big but I'm okay with it. Its got a pretty good likeness, the only thing is that he looks rather bored, or more likely, drunk. His hair is made of soft PVC so you can still turn his head. He's made slightly leaning back which helps depict his mannerism. There's some nice detail on him, like the folds of his clothes and boots. On his belt he's got his compass, his dish cloth and the shrunken head of his mother. One thing which I dislike is that the paint is too clean. It's like he just bought his attire.

I think he looks better without his hat.

Besides the hat, he's got two pistols and a sword for accessories. The hat could use  some paint to make it look weathered and the pistols could use some bits of silver or gold paint for the metallic areas.

There's a strap for him to carry his sword but he won't be able to put his arm down.

His left hand is open but you can still hook the sword to it. Or if you like, you can have him fire it with his right hand.

The figure has mainly peg and hinged joints. Articulation at the neck, shoulders, elbows, wrists, waist, hips and knees.

He also comes with a roleplay ring. Press the skull button to shine a light on the figure to reveal the zombie feature. I tried it out, aside from his face, I didn't see the feature on any other part of his body.

He can fit in with the Zizzle 4" POTC line.

And with some other lines.

Hope the later waves get released. Looking to get a few more characters.
