J-Obsession 2013 @ The Cathay - "Are you the Next Pirate King?"

J-Obsession 2013 was held at The Cathay from 22 - 24 February 2013. This year was the 4th edition of the event and it featured 2 cosplay competitions as well as J-music performances by local bands. I dropped by for the last two days.

I haven't been to the Cathay in ages. Where was the "kachang puteh" seller? Or the Orange Julius restaurant? Lol. When I got there there was already a sizeable crowd.

The theme for the event this year was "Are you the Next Pirate King?". Hence the huge Tony Tony Chopper from One Piece at the atrium.

I caught a couple of the performances. The bands were really loud. My ears were ringing from it.

The highlight of Day 2 was the One Piece Cosplay Competition. Here's just a few snippets from it.

On the third day, the Harlem Shake was organised. The image below was the setup of phase two. I took a video but my angle was poor. The official video should be out some time this week and you can check the J-Obsession Facebook for it.

Here's a couple of pics from the Open Category Cosplay Competition.

I'm sure you'll want to check out more images so here are the links to the galleries.

G.I.JOE Retaliation Dark Ninja

Here's a look at the G.I.JOE Retaliation Dark Ninja.

From the back of the package, it seems we might have gotten an alternate head and the Storm Shadow backpack.

The Dark Ninja is a repaint of the Renegades Storm Shadow. I would have preferred if the Red Ninja body were used instead. That one has ankle pivot. This is still a good figure though. Here he's clad in dark grey and black. The dragon on his costume is well painted.

Accessories. He comes with a pair of claws, 2 swords with scabbards and a backpack glider. There's also a pair of two prong claw like weapon. From the description on the package, I think they're called saber claws and that they are worn on his legs. You can equip them on his arms too if you like. The scabbard does not fit well on his back and it tends to drop off.

I got him to hold all his weapons. Frankenstein style attack!

Here's the glider in action. Its a little troublesome to get him to hold the handles. I like the print on the cloth portion.

Articulation. Hes got a ball joint neck, ball hinge shoulders, swivel hinge elbows, swivel hinge wrists, torso pivot, ball hips, double jointed knees and ankle swivel and hinge.

We've gotten a number of cool ninjas in recent times.

Some comparison shots.

That's all for now. Thanks for viewing!

G.I.JOE Retaliation Lady Jaye

Here's a look at the G.I.JOE Retaliation Lady Jaye.

Lady Jaye was played by Adrianne Palicki in the film. From the trailers and posters, I think the figure has a good likeness. I like her headsculpt. She has a serious expression on her face. And with her side bangs it gives her an action packed look. Once again there's poor eye paint. Her left eye is painted to the extreme right. It makes her seem like shes always looking to the right. Her body looks a little out of proportion. Her legs, especially the thighs look too long. She's wearing a pixelated uniform. The pixels were painted on very well.

She comes with a lot of accessories. There's a bazooka, 2 backpacks (one of which holds 4 missiles), a speargun, 2 large guns, 2 machine guns and 2 knives.

Articulation. Shes got a ball joint neck, ball hinge shoulders, swivel hinge elbows, wrist swivel, torso pivot, ball hips, double jointed knees and ankle hinge and pivot.

The backpacks fit fine. The back end of the bazooka can be removed.

The missiles can be loaded into the bazooka.

Some comparison shots.

Overall I like the figure. The accessories are a bonus. Thanks for viewing!
